Masterclass Mindful Leadership Airbus - Outline

Over the last few years Mindful Leadership has become a focus point in corporate leadership programs. The science behind it is strong enough to consider it valuable for leaders to develop this quality. In my view the core practice of leadership in today’s constantly shifting environment is about directing and managing attention. That holds both for one’s own attention and for that of the team or organization one is leading.

In this masterclass we started with the science behind mindfulness and its applications in a business leadership context and presented a short overview of mindfulness and its relation to aspects like health and well-being, stress and resilience, focus and mindset. Including recent research at the Centrum voor Mindfulness in Amsterdam into mindfulness programs at work, which shows significant positive outcomes on attention, stress, motivation and effectiveness.

Agricultural Transformation and Leadership Development in Ethiopia

The Presencing Institute worked with Synergos and the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture and its Agricultural Transformation Agency. The ultimate vision of this project is increasing the efficacy of the agencies involved and thus improving food security, livelihoods for smallholder farmers, and Ethiopia’s overall economy.

Agriculture is the foundation of the Ethiopian economy. It contributes to more than 40% of the GDP and employs over 80% of the labor force, of which 90% are small-scale farmers, many of them women. Arable land is highly fragmented and under-utilization of appropriate agricultural technologies has destined the country for food insecurity. Re-energizing an international community

Trager International is a worldwide community of body-mind practitioners, people who work with their hands to help people make aware of what it is to live from the feeling of a healthy body. My colleague Julie Arts and I were approached when the Trager International community felt they were stuck in old ways of organizing and communicating with each other (communication ineffective, difficulty handling diversity, underdeveloped vision of the future, formalities focused leadership, need for educational renewal). Their biggest challenge was to find new pathways to a flourishing future, reconnecting to the inner core of the work, and build a new thriving community.

We co-created and designed a three year long change process based on Theory U with the Trager community. Starting from sensing with fresh eyes what was happening outside in the world around Trager and inside their own community we designed a series of conferences and prototyping practices that are enabling new way of working as a community.
